Schneider and Jameson – 1st Update

Schneider Chancy and Jameson Figarot are together so often that it seems fitting for them to share a post on our Year in the Life blog. Growing up as neighbors and peers at St. John’s school, they have been the best of friends for as long as each can remember. And nothing about their adulthood indicates they have any intention of severing their strong bond.

When they both graduated high school in the summer of 2016, Schnieder and Jameson faced the first steps of their career paths together. University tuition to acquire degrees for jobs they had been considering was very expensive. No scholarships were available. So they decided to spend a year interning in the agriculture program at St. Paul’s School, where they assisted the agronomist in the school garden.

They each hit their stride as interns. Both discovered that they enjoyed agriculture so much that they wanted to pursue it as a career. After the year internship, they enrolled in a certificate program at an agricultural technician school named Zanmi Agriko, where they are in the second semester of their first year.

Because of their enthusiasm and dedication, Schnieder and Jameson jointly received a grant from the United Thank Offering to develop a sustainability program for the local summer camp. The program’s goals are to teach children about the environment by having them work on eco-friendly projects, such as making charcoal out of waste paper or developing a worm composting system. Part of the program involves partnering with Wynne Farm, a nature reserve situated in the mountains of Kenscoff, Haiti. Schnieder and Jameson will spend several weeks there leading up to the summer camp in August.
