Medical Volunteers
We may be sending a small team of medical professionals to Petit Trou in June 2010. In the meantime, please see the following organizations for medical volunteer opportunities:
Long-term
We are always looking for people to do general administrative work in our office and help with mailings, either regulary or just on occassion. We also are in need of people with the following skills or interests:
- Agriculture/Agro-forestry--we would like to start a committee that will guide our efforts in these areas.
- Energy/Environment--we are starting a committee to guide our efforts in these issues areas in the de Nippes region.
- Women's issues--we would like to start a "mirror committee" that will guide our efforts related to women's issues.
- Fundraising/Grant Writing--help with outreach, grant writing, and planning events
- Manage our Konbit Program(student sponsorship)--this position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Communications/PR--help us create a marketing plan, market events, create brochures and other informational materials
- Mission Trips--If you're interested in going to Haiti on one of our mission trips click here. Note: we are NOT currently accepting requests to go to Haiti as part of earthquake relief efforts, except for medical professionals.
The Colorado Haiti Project depends on volunteers like you to address the many needs of the organization and hold down administrative costs. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the office at 303-938-5021 to discuss the possibilities. We will make every effort to match you particular gifts with the needs of the organization.
IN-KIND DONATIONS
We are NOT taking in-kind donations for earthquake relief.
Specific in-kind donations are very useful to the operation of the Colorado Haiti Project. While we cannot always accept items a potential donor would like to give us, we maintain a "Wish List" of items that are presently needed. These items include:
Children's Hygiene Kits
(If possible, put together an entire kit and place items in a ziplock bag marked "boy" or "girl")
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- Bar of soap (Antibacterial)
- Hair Comb (wide tooth)
- Ribbons, clips, ties (for girls)
- Marbles or Yoyos (for boys)
- Sewing Kit (for mothers)
- (No shampoo or liquid materials please)
Medical Clinic Support
- Vitamins: for children, pregnant women & lactating mothers
- Benadryl tablets: 25 mg. tabs for adults & 12.5 mg chewables for children
- Band-aids (colorful -- for children)
- Antacids with calcium
- Diphenhydramine tablets (antihistamine)
- Triple/double antibiotic cream or ointment
- Anti-fungal cream
- Tylenol
- Ibuprofen
- Empty film canisters or plastic medicine containers
- (Soak medicine containers to remove old labels)
Educational Support
- Composition books
- Graph Paper
- Paper for copying machine
- Rulers, protractors & compass
- Pens & pencils
- Chalk & crayons
- Books written in French
Other
- Laptop computers
